Will I still have to get up to change my damp nightwear during the night?

No, your Coolfemme nightwear absorbs or ‘wicks’ the sweat off your skin, pulls it through to the outer surface of the fabric and dries quickly. You may still be aware of the hot flash but your nightwear will not be cold, clammy and wet as it is with cotton. See our many testimonials including this one “Oh no, I’m sweating, here we go again and the next thing I knew, it was morning! I didn’t wake up fully in the night because the Coolfemme nightgown did its job.”

Why would I wear polyester instead of cotton?

Cotton takes longer to dry, so having absorbed the sweat from your body it remains damp, cold and clammy.  The new high tech polyester micro fibres are found in jackets to keep you warm, raincoats to repel water, window wash cloths to make your windows shine. If you consider the different properties of paper products, for instance computer paper, which is firm and non -absorbent while tissue paper is soft and absorbent. The properties are changed to suit the purpose. In the same way, Coolfemme Clothing uses a wicking polyester that is structured to absorb moisture. For more information please visit our fabric page.

How does Coolfemme work?

The high tech polyester fabric is designed to pull or ‘wick’ moisture off the surface of your skin through to the outer surface of the fabric where it spreads out and dries quickly. The fabric must be in contact with your skin for this wicking action to work. If you have long hair between your skin and the fabric of pillowcase or nightclothes it will not be able to work. Body hair may also form a barrier and reduce the effectiveness of the wicking action.

How do I wash Coolfemme?

Coolfemme fabric can be machine or hand washed in warm water 40°C to 50°C / 105°F to 120°F and tumbled dry on low setting or hang to dry.Do not use fabric softeners or treated dryer sheets that can leave a residue which will affect the wicking action. Coolfemme nightwear is excellent for vacations, it takes up little space and dries quickly. If your white items are washed with colours they may start to appear grey after many washings. Try laundering using an enzyme containing laundry product like Canadian made Pink Solution or Borax.

How often should I wash my Coolfemme nightwear?

As often as needed, for some people that may be daily depending on the severity of their night sweats.

How do sweat glands operate?

There are two kinds of sweat glands, and they differ greatly in both the composition of the sweat and its purpose:

Eccrine sweat glands are distributed over the entire body surface, but are particularly abundant on the palms of hands, soles of feet, and on the forehead. These produce sweat that is composed chiefly of water with various salts. These glands are used for body temperature regulation.

Apocrine sweat glands produce sweat that contains fatty materials. These glands are mainly present in the armpits and around the genital area and their activity is the main cause of sweat odour, due to the bacteria that break down the organic compounds in the sweat from these glands.

Should I use fabric softener or treated dryer sheets?

DO NOT use fabric softeners or treated dryer sheets which leave a residue on the fabric that will reduce the wicking properties. Sometimes the dryer drum is already coated with this residue, in this case you may want to clean it or hang your Coolfemme items to dry. If the wicking properties are reduced by the residue from fabric softener or treated dryer sheets, re-wash and hang to dry.

I sleep with nothing on, why should I wear Coolfemme nightwear?

‘It is like sleeping in a butterfly wing’ said one woman of our very light weight, soft fabric. Without nightwear the sweat will cause your sheets to tangle and stick to your body. Many women have asked this but those that have tried Coolfemme say they cannot go back to sleeping without their nightwear. See our guarantee and testimonials.

I only get hot flashes, will this help me?

Probably not, Coolfemme’s CoolBest micro- fibre is structured to absorb the wetness of night sweating and remain dry and comfortable. Coolfemme is specifically suited to people who experience the discomfort of damp, cold chills while sleeping.

Why do I get night sweats?

Night sweats are not only caused by menopause but are also a side effect (in some people ) of diabetes, obesity, HIV/AIDS, fibromyalgia, hyperhydrosis, MS, liver and heart and many other ailments and some medications. Women and men experiencing cancer treatments that include hormones may find they start to have night sweats. We have some links here to various night sweat resources.

Do you sell men’s nightwear?

Yes, we have sleep shirts and longer night shirts and, for senior men in assisted living, the hospital gown has a full cover back with a side tie. Many men experience night sweats from a variety of causes see ‘Why do I get night sweats’. Pillowcases for standard, queen or king size pillows are very effective for head and neck sweats.

When it arrives we will send the new size to you and we will cover the shipping and handling charges on the replacement item.

Are Coolfemme products ‘Made in Canada’?

Coolfemme Clothing is designed and made in British Columbia, Canada by independent business women and conforms to all required workplace regulations. We feel very strongly that consumers should be more aware of the conditions under which their clothing is made. Read more about sweatshops at Coolfemme ethics. Sweatshops exist within Canadian cities, Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver, ‘Made in Canada’ on the label does not guarantee the garment was not made in a sweatshop. By definition a sweatshop does not adhere to the labour, safety or other regulations of the region. We are environmentally aware and Reduce, Re-use and Recycle where possible.
